CPST Summer Group Program Hosts 160 Kids a Week
During summer break, children lose the school-day structure to which they are accustomed, resulting in a decline in functioning, particularly for children with ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder or disruptive behavior disorder. Red Oak’s Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment (CPST) Summer Program provides the structure needed for children to thrive.
CPST Director DeAnna Christian, LISW-S, and Joe Delagrange, CPST, led the charge for our 2016 summer group program, resulting in our biggest year ever, as we hosted 160 kids on average each week.
The groups ran from June 13-Aug. 12 at OASIS in Akron. Each child participated one day a week where they received breakfast and lunch, as well as two hours of mental health therapy, discussion groups, guest speakers and other activities and crafts. Topics such as anger, bullying, self-control, self-esteem and drug awareness were covered during the groups.
“It was such a privilege to work with so many clients and other staff members to participate in these groups,” said Delagrange. “We had a wonderful time and hopefully we were able to positively impact the lives of our clients.”
The program is open to all clients of Red Oak and will be available in 2017. If you are interested in having your child participate in the summer groups program, please contact DeAnna Christian at (330) 996-4600.
