Red Oak Pilots After-School Program at OASIS Akron

Red Oak has expanded its reach and impact to its school-based clients! Over 100 kids participated in the 8-week after-school program from September to November at OASIS Akron.

The CPST providers (case managers) chose four kids to bring to the group on Thursdays after school. The kids received an hour of therapy, enjoyed open gym time, and were fed a hot, nutritious meal at 5:00.

DeAnna Christian, CPST Director says, “Our goal was to provide a supplemental service to enhance what the clients are working on with the therapist at their school building. We offered group activities to build social skills and help improve conflict resolution.”

Red Oak is planning to host another 8-week program in 2017 and during winter calamity days or other days when Akron Public Schools is closed. Red Oak thanks OASIS Akron for their hospitality on these days and on other afternoons when they open their doors to Red Oak staff and their clients.
