Mental Health Assessment
Assessment and Intake
At Red Oak, our goal is to provide you with hope and help you to heal. That journey begins by determining the best treatment available to meet your needs – tailored for and driven by you.
We work with you to create a plan of care that starts with an assessment.
The assessment process will be completed with sensitivity and respect. Red Oak provides individuals with a physically and emotionally safe space and honors the voice and choice of the person seeking services.
Here is the information that will be gathered during the assessment:
- “What happened to you and how can we help?”
- “What are your areas of strength?”
- Family history
- Medical history
- Trauma history
- “Who is on your support team?”
This begins your journey of healing and recovery.
After the assessment is completed, your clinician will determine a diagnosis, and together you will develop an individualized plan that will guide the course of treatment. All treatment services at Red Oak are based on best practice and evidence-based programs.
School-Based Services
At Red Oak, we offer a unique “bell to bell” therapy model that is embedded directly within the school building. We know mental health and wellness is directly linked to positive academic achievement, prevention of risky behaviors, and improved high school graduation rates. That’s why we partner with schools to deliver embedded mental health treatment services in school buildings across Northeast Ohio – from preschool to high school.

If we determine that students and their families can benefit from a continuum of care outside of a school-based setting, we can provide a comprehensive range of integrated services at the conveniently-located Barbara M. Vassel Comprehensive Care Center.
Outpatient Services
Our outpatient center allows to us offer care for the whole family – with therapy and psychiatric treatment services for children, teens and adults. We listen first and then work together to find solutions that help you achieve your goals.
Our team brings expertise from a variety of disciplines. This results in a thoughtful, comprehensive “whole person” approach to your medical and mental health wellness. Learn more about Red Oak’s Outpatient team.

Mental Health Counseling
Individual Counseling
In individual counseling, a therapist will work with you one-on-one to identify your treatment goals and establish a plan to work towards them. Together you will identify your current strengths, skills, stressors and triggers, so you can more effectively establish boundaries and build resiliency.
Group Counseling
Engaging with a small group of individuals who have similar treatment plan goals creates a setting of physical and emotional safety and provides and opportunity for a broader network of support as you heal. Facilitated by a licensed therapist, group counseling offers an environment for encouragement and an opportunity to heal and grow.
Community Support
Changing maladaptive thoughts and behaviors and building recovery skills takes practice. Red Oak’s Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment (CPST) or case management services are designed to provide you with the opportunity to practice the new skills outlined in your treatment plan and link you to community resources that resolve external barriers to your health and wellness.
