One in five children will experience a mental health problem during their school years.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, serious mental health problems for these students are on the rise. An estimated 60% of students do not receive the treatment they need.

Embedded school-based mental health supports provide a full continuum of care, including social–emotional learning, mental wellness, resilience, and positive connections between students and adults.

School-based mental health professionals, like those employed by Red Oak, can help to identify and work with students with more intense or ongoing needs, and school leaders who recognize the relationship between student success, quality instruction and comprehensive school health programs that include attention to mental health will more effectively improve student and school outcomes.

The 2022 Where Love Grows Gala, held at Greystone Hall in Akron, helps support Red Oak and our community’s most vulnerable students.

All of the proceeds go directly to help meet the critical needs of children and families that are not covered by insurance – from rental deposits to clothing vouchers and backpacks for our existing clients to prevention and intervention services for those who are struggling but don’t yet meet the criterion for a diagnosis.

Together, we can continue to help change the lives of children and families in Greater Akron by delivering services that meet our families where they are.
